After Netflix’s “Master of None” put her on the map with a comedy writing Emmy, Waithe has been prolific as a writer and producer, launching series such as Showtime’s “The Chi” and producing Amazon’s provocative 2021 limited horror series “Them.” She has also helped to open doors for marginalized people in entertainment, launching the “Rising Voices” talent development initiative with Indeed in February. Then in October, she signed a multi-podcast development deal with Amazon’s Audible as her Hillman Grad prodco teamed with Endeavor Content for a documentary about actor Mary Tyler Moore — all before signing an exclusive, multi-year deal with Warner Bros. TV in November that will see projects release on multiple platforms, starting with “Hoop Dreams,” a scripted series take on the 1994 documentary.
